How to Stack Rings: A Guide to Building the Perfect Ring Stack

Ring stacking looks effortless when it's done well. Getting there takes a bit of thought — but once you understand the logic, it becomes intuitive. Here's how to build a stack that works.

Start With an Anchor Piece

Every good stack has a focal point — usually a slightly larger or more detailed ring that the others orbit around. This could be a statement band, a textured ring or a piece with a slight sculptural quality. The rest of the stack is built around it, not competing with it.

Mix Widths Deliberately

The most versatile stacks combine rings of different widths. A wide band next to a very fine stacking ring creates contrast and makes both more interesting. Three rings of identical width tend to look like one thick ring — which can work as a style choice, but it's limiting. Try: one wide, one medium, one fine.

Texture vs Polish

A mix of finishes — one polished, one textured — adds depth to a stack without the need for multiple metals or colours. The Arcive's Brut Ring (textured) works well alongside the Lisse Band (smooth polish) because the contrast in surface gives your eye somewhere to move.

Which Fingers?

Stacking doesn't have to mean multiple rings on one finger. Spreading rings across two or three fingers — including the index finger, which is underused — creates a more considered, deliberate look. Balance the hand rather than loading one side.

Sizing for Stacking

Rings worn for stacking are often sized up half a size from your usual fit. If you're wearing two or three rings together, especially in summer when fingers swell slightly, a comfortable stack requires a little more room than a single ring would.

Mixing Metals

The old rule about not mixing gold and silver is exactly that — old. Mixed-metal stacks can look sharp, but they need intention. Choose two metals maximum and let one dominate. If it's mostly gold with one silver piece, make sure that silver piece earns its place.

The Rings Built for Stacking

Fine bands with a low profile stack best — they sit flush against each other and don't catch on things. The Trace Ring and Lisse Band are both built for exactly this. Statement rings like the Marée or Brut work as anchor pieces in a multi-ring look.
